HTC’s Vice President of Management confirmed the Android 4.4.3 update will be available for the unlocked and international versions of the HTC One M8. The same update is already available for Sprint customers.

This raises one question. Why won’t the HTC One M8 receive the slightly newer version of Android, the 4.4.4 considering the fact that the Google Play Edition version of the flagship has already been updated? Well, we’ll have to thank HTC’s engineers for that because they were able to incorporate all of the security fixes from 4.4.4 into the 4.4.3 update for the HTC One M8, meaning that, essentially, this update is the 4.4.4 one with a different name.

What all of this means is that the HTC One M8 won’t be getting the Android 4.4.4 update, meaning that the next one will be Android L. Even though nobody is certain when Android L will be released, HTC has pledged that that all of their handsets will be updated within 90 days.

Owners of the unlocked and international version of the HTC One M8 should keep an eye out for the OTA notification while customers with other carriers will, unfortunately, have to wait a few more weeks for the update to get through
